MUSIC PLAYGROUND

Hello and welcome to music playground, Singapore’s largest wind music store! Music playground was founded by a bunch of wind music enthusiasts on our Love and Passion for wind music. It is our sincere wish to share this with everyone and to support the education and promotion of wind music in Singapore and the region.

We started out in September 1999 in a humble shop front in Bukit Timah and relocated to Ang Mo Kio in 2003. Through our travels around the world in the 1980s and 1990s, we experienced the richness in wind music resources available overseas and realised that there was a severe lack in accessibility to that in Singapore. Fuelled by this epiphany, music playground was set up, aiming to bridge the gap as a one-stop wind music shop.

For over a decade, our team of established musicians and music teachers has been diligently sourcing the world to bring you the best and the latest in wind music. With the expertise of our professional and dedicated team, our carefully selected range of sheet music, accompanying music CDs, DVDs and instructional books on music and music training caters to musicians of all levels. Through the years, we have built up a trusty collection of tried-and-tested favourites, as well as edgier and more challenging pieces for adventurous bands and ensembles. We are also able to bring in choral music resources - just check with us!

Our products come from the finest wind music publishers in the world:

• Alfred Music Publishing
• Beriato Music
• Brain Music
• C. L. Barnhouse
• Carl Fischer Music (Theodore Presser)
• De Haske
• GIA Publications
• Hal Leonard
• Retsel Mil
• World Wind Music

Our customers are mainly band directors buying on behalf of school bands, and we are backed by years of experience dealing with local schools. Our source of motivation is passing on the passion for quality wind music to the next generation. In conjunction with this continual aim to champion wind music education in schools, we have had the great honour of being appointed by Singapore Ministry of Education’s Co-Curricular Activities Branch to be the official distributor of Singapore Youth Festival Concert Band Central Judging set pieces for:

2001 (Singapura Medley by Robert Foster)
2003 (Tales of the Sea by Soichi Konagaya)
2005 (Singapore Rhapsody by Jacob de Haan)
2009 (Two Overtures for Wind Band by Kelly Tang)
2011 (Memories of Friendship & The Singapore Flyer by Satoshi Yagisawa)

Abiding by the Confucian virtue of “饮水思源” (repaying the kindness of one’s benefactors), community outreach has always been at the top of our list. We love our music so much that we believe that wind music should not be restricted to highbrow occasions—everyone should benefit from it, especially the heartlanders! We are pleased to announce that we are finally able to garner enough resources to share our wind music with the general public through supporting various local community bands.

Thanks to the support of our customers, music playground has truly matured over the years and we now take the experience we have gained to participate in enhancing the wind music education in our region through our dealings with wind bands in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and China. We look forward to learning more so that we can give back to the whole world!

We sincerely thank you for visiting us!

Hope you have fun discovering in our music playground!
